Unfortunately, a lack of confidence can undermine your efforts and your dreams in ways that you might not even suspect. Without confidence, all of your potential and your abilities could be for nothing. In fact, those people who are lacking confidence often feel to afraid or too timid to make the most of their abilities. Perhaps even worse, they will fail to develop new abilities or develop their potential. Lacking confidence can prevent you from becoming who you want to be.
The negative effect that a lack of confidence can have on your life can be nothing short of profound. Unconfident people will feel as though they can never accomplish what they want in life. Constantly feeling like you are not good enough, smart enough, tall enough (or whatever else you may feel is lacking) is no way to live. In a very real and profound sense, a lack of confidence can potentially sap up all of your potential. It can also suck all the joy out of life as well.
Haven’t you ever noticed that people who suffer from a lack of confidence always suffer from poor self-esteem? Also people who have low levels of confidence are usually not very happy either. How could they be? After all, if you lack the confidence to reach out, try new things or change what you don’t like about your life, then how can you ever be happy? The simple and quick answer is that you can’t!
So what do you do if you find that you lack confidence? Is there a magic formula that will change this part of your life? The first place to start is to try and discover why you are lacking in confidence. Your lack of confidence may be the result of the way you were raised or the action of your parents. It may also stem from negative experiences that you had in the past. Stop and remind yourself that just because something happened in the past doesn’t mean it will happen again in the future.
If you lack the courage to ask someone out on a date, for example, this might very well be the result of past negative experiences. However, you should remind yourself that all sorts of people successfully ask other people out every single day. Keep in mind that most people actually do get married.
The point is that confidence is necessary to try to get what you want. When persistence is also added into the equation, you will likely achieve your goals. Confidence and persistence are a powerful combination!
Like I said before, most of those people who lack confidence also may lack self-esteem. You need to respect yourself and hold yourself in high regard in order to accomplish your goals. Stop and consider all the obstacles that you have already overcome in life. Everyone has something to be confident about.
If you can’t immediately think of examples, give it a little time. Take time to reflect on your past. The odds are that eventually you will remember several occasions where you have already displayed courage and confidence. If you have been confident in the past, you can do it again.
